Antique J & P Coats Spool Cabinet, Thread Cabinet, Display Cabinet

Antique J & P Coats Spool Cabinet Desk.
Wonderful and Beautiful find from the late 1800s early 1900s Wooden Spool Cabinet Desk made by the J & P Coats Company. This lovely four drawer cabinet has a lift lid and four pullout drawers with their original brass knobs. The desktop has been converted at some point in its life to a glass display case with beautiful green felt lining, which was brilliant to make the cabinet a wonderful display piece. The top organizer piece is original when it was a desk complete with the Ink-Well and Pen holder on the top right corner. The top organizer is easily unscrewed and placed inside the cabinet for storage and transporting.
The construction of the cabinet is quality craftsman grade with solid hardwood oak construction, with mortise and tenon case joints and dovetail corner joints on all the drawers.
This will be a wonderful gift or that special display piece in your home filled with antique sewing notions.

In 1802 James Coats set up a weaving business in Paisley Scotland. In 1826 he opened a cotton mill at Ferguslie Scotland to produce his own thread and, when he retired in 1830, his sons, James & Peter, took up the business under the name of J. & P. Coats. Today the business is under the name Coats Group.
