Antique 1898 The GEM Capper & Cork Press, Apothecary Cork Press
The GEM Capper & Cork Press, a cast-iron hand tool, would have been found in local Apothecaries, Pharmacies, and General stores across America at the turn of the 20th century. Clerks would custom-package liquids individually per order; this was how it was done before mass production. Corks were used in all bottle types: medicine, home remedies, and alcohol. The press has four cork sizes, ¼” to 1” in diameter.
You lift the handle and place a wet cork into the press, then push the handle down; the cork compresses to the size of the bottle you need.
The Press has a patent date of April 26, 1898.

Circa: 1898
Marked: GEM Capper & Cork Press.
Measures: 14½” long, 6½” tall (handle down).
