Thank you for viewing our Store,

We have for sale a Vintage November 6, 1939 Scholastic: The American High School Weekly. War and Peace Issue featuring Boy of Warsaw on cover

Seventy seven year old high school magazine contains interesting articles written at the beginning of WWII on: America and the ‘War in Europe’, Air Raid: A verse play for Radio by Archibald MacLeish (5 pages), 10 Don’ts for Neutrals and Democracy. Includes ads for Ford Motor Company, Corona Typewriter and Martin Band Instrument Company.

Editor is Maurice Robinson, who founded the Scholastic Publishing Company in 1920 in his hometown of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. For many years the company continued its focus on serving the youth market, publishing low-cost magazines and later paperback books. The company continued under the name Scholastic Magazines throughout the 1970s. The secret to its success were timely and provocative news articles from the teenager perspective.

Magazine is in good vintage condition. The student wrote his name (Gordon Bergman) in pencil on the front cover and made a few stray marks on some of the pages. He also 3-hole punched the publication. All printing is legible, no folds or stains. No marks or tears except as noted.
