History;
For those of you who don’t know about these numbered nails a quick history lesson, Railroad and lumber companies use to track the lumber use for their railroad ties each RR tie would have a number nail placed into the top side of the rail away from the track this was the date then it was put into service. Remember this was back in the day before treated lumber so the ties usually only lasted a couple years at best
