We have for sale An Antique Brass Mining Surveyors Compass
Wonderful compact compass with sights in original wood case. This size compass was used by mining Surveyors and the forestry service in the early 1900s. Compass does have the original owners name engraved on the bottom side (Gerald Darrow). Gerald Darrow founder of the Lucky Strike Bentonite (Uranium) Mines in Eastern Wyoming

Compass is in its original case and has the staff attachment. Compass has fold down sights and has a 360 deg scale and two built-in levels. There is a small brass needle lock on side of compass to secure the compass needle for transportation.
We could find no markings on the compass or case, there are handwritten dates on the bottom of the case one reading Jan 1923. Compass is in working condition with decades of wonderful patina, case is worn but very solid.

Found in Edgemont S.D.
Circa, 1920-40 but could be much older.

Measures, compass 6” diameter, sights 3 ½” tall, staff attachment 3 ½” long
case, 8” x 6 ½” x 1 ½”
