Antique Lightening Rod with Blue Glass Globe and Wind Arrow
Wonderful 19th Century Copper & Glass Lightening Rod with Wind Arrow, made by the D & S Company of Des Moines IA. The rod stands 53¾-inches tall and is made of a copper tube and capped at the top with copper finial, also a portion of the ground cable still attached at the base, the rod is held in a twisted steel roof bracket which is 30” tall with legs that screw down to the roof. The glass globe is 10-sided with a diameter of 3¾-inches, the wind arrow is made of nickel-plated copper and is 17-inches long.
Overall condition is very good, as expected the rod has dents and dings, the arrow has a rip in the tail and is worn in the middle from twisting in the wind for 100 years, the globe is marked, D & S patent pending, and in very nice condition, has normal chips on top and bottom covered up by copper caps. All the copper is weathered and tarnished and has a wonderful patina.
