W & T Avery Brass Equal-Arm Beam Scale
Wonderful brass shop scale made by W & T Avery Ltd, Birmingham, England. This type of scale was used in mercantile stores to measure bulk grain, seeds, and candies. It is a Class-B, 8oz Equal-Arm Beam Scale it is made of solid brass attached to a black lacquer finished wood base, scoop pan is removable. The scale is marked several times with the W & T Avery name.
History,
The W & T Avery scale making business has been around for some time, started in 1818 by William and Thomas Avery in Digbeth an area of Central Birmingham, England. In 1979 the company was taken over by GEC. In 2000, the business was acquired by the US-American Co. Weigh-Tronix to form Avery Weigh-Tronix, Avery Berkel Company.

Measures, base measures 16” x 9” Scale is 20” tall with wood base.
Condition, weathered with lots of patina and tarnish, scale was used and shows small dents and dings in scale and base.
