Antique 1876, Hand Crank Fluting Iron, Victoria Seamstress Tool, Clothing Ruffler.
Wonderful Piece of history, this is a Fluting Machine or also called a Ruffler used to put pleating or French fluting in freshly laundered clothing. This size Fluting Machine was designed for home use or travel and made by the Pering & Graff Manufacturing Company of Cincinnati Ohio.
Made of cast iron with corrugated brass fluting rollers with wood crank handle, this is a tabletop model. There is a lever in the crank side of the machine which allows you to raise and lower the upper roller to insert or remove the garment from the machine.
The machine is marked in raised lettering Royal 80 on the top roller housing and Pat, March 14, 1876, Pering & Graff Mfg. Co. Cin. O. on the bottom side of the base. It is all original with remnants of the painted and pinstriping.
This style fluting iron is designed to hold hot steel rods inside the brass rollers, the rod would heat the rollers for ironing, (heating irons not included).
We have cleaned the machine and oiled the surface to preserve the cast iron.
This would be a great restoration project or leave as is.

Machine Measures, 7 ¼” tall, 12 ½” wide with handle, 5 ¾” depth. Weighs 7.6 pounds.
Condition, structurally solid with paint lose and surface rust. Operates smoothly with no cracks in iron or brass.
