Antique 1800s Apothecary Cork Press, Cast Iron
This Victorian period Cork Press is made of Cast Iron and has a beautiful scroll design on the top. This is a hand cork press with two different sized diameters 3/8” and 3/4” press points. The Press was originally finished in a bronze color it still has some areas where the color remains. Bronze-washed plating was a common type of plating / color during the latter part of the 1800s. The press does have a maker's mark on the bottom, but we cannot make out the name.
Cork Presses were used throughout the 1800s and early 1900s you would have found them in Pharmacy’s and Drug stores across America.
You lift the handle and place a moistened cork into the press, by pushing the handle down the cork would be compressed to the size bottle you needed it to fit.
Circa, 1880-90s
Measures, 9” long, 3” tall.
Condition, Clean used condition. The press has a lean to one side we assume this is how it was designed.
Please see all photos as they are part of the description.
