Antique 1880 American Machine Co. Fluting Iron
Wonderful 1880s Hand Roller Fluting Iron made by the American Machine Co. of Philadelphia PA.
This is a hand operated flutter for applying pleats to clothing, cuffs and collars. It is made of cast iron base with a steel pleating plate and the roller is made of cast iron with a wooden handle. Inside the base is a cast iron heating plate (these are usually missing) these would have been placed on the stove and heated then set in the fluter base to heat the pleating plate, the heating plate has square holes in it, these are for picking it up when hot.
Overall condition is very good, we have cleaned and oiled the metal. American Machine Co. Fluter with hand roller
