Antique 1880 American Machine Co. Fluting Iron
Wonderful 1880s Hand Roller Fluting Iron made by the American Machine Co. of Philadelphia PA.
This is a hand operated flutter for applying pleats to clothing, cuffs and collars. It is made of cast iron base with a steel pleating plate and the roller is made of cast iron with a wooden handle. Inside the base is a cast iron heating plate (these are usually missing) these would have been placed on the stove and heated then set in the fluter base to heat the pleating plate, the heating plate has square holes in it, these are for picking it up when hot.

This fluter iron is EXACTLY as pictured and described ... is in excellent condition ... and was wrapped and shipped in tip-top shape!! This will part of a "metals" group for my son's Christmas gifts ... and I'm so very happy to have found it AND this shop: you'll LOVE buying here :)
