Vintage Pair of Bob Blackwood Spurs with Leather Straps
Wonderful western spurs hand made by Bob Blackwood Texas Rodeo Legend.
If you know cowboys then you know Bob Blackwood, bull rider and bronc rider champion in the 1970s thru the 1980s.
These spurs are Blackwood’s Bull Riding Spurs with the twisted shank, custom designed by Blackwood.
The spurs have a 1¼”- 5-point steel rowel, they have a 2¼” shank and the heal band / yoke has about a 3” spread. The leather straps including heel bands are lightly worn, but in good solid condition.
Note, the cotter key on the shank at the front on the rowels, this is to prevent the rowel from spinning, if desired.
History,
The story goes, back around 1969 someone stole Blackwood’s spurs at the rodeo and soon after he started his own Spurs and Rodeo Equipment Company. The BB Brand would become the standard for competitors and the twisted shank bull spur, that Blackwood developed was one of a very few changes to the bull spur since cowboys started riding bulls.
