RARE 1930 Red Wing Union Stoneware Company Five Gallon Jug with 4-inch Wing, #7 Variant Standard Oval.
This is a wonderful stoneware Jug made by the Red Wing Stoneware Company of Red Wing Minnesota.
We say rare on the piece because of the following variation to the Logo. On the jug you will see a blue oval, this specific oval was used by Red Wing around 1930 and is known as the #7 Variant Standard Oval. There is a very slight difference from the #7 Standard Oval to the #7 Variant Standard Oval, but enough to catch the eye of every Red Wing Collector.
These larger jugs were used to store cooking essentials like, cooking oils, Molasses, Vinegar, and other bulk liquids.
Overall condition is wonderful with NO chips or cracks.
Source reference for the two variations of the #7 oval; “Red Wing Pottery & Their Wares” by Gary and Bonnie Tefft.
Marked, Red Wing
Measurements, 17¼” tall, 11¼” diameter at base, weighs 19 pounds. Condition, very nice for age, has NO Chips or Cracks, Normal manufacturing blemishes.
