Antique 1880s Iowa Stoneware Three Gallon Crock
Wonderful one-of-a-kind piece of American pottery Iowa Stoneware. This lovely crock is known as the 3-gallon Cobalt blue (flower) design, which dates to between 1880s and 1896. Made with rich tan salt glaze and a beautiful hand drawn cobalt blue flower design. Inside has a dark brown glaze finish.
This crock is known as a (Oooops), the clay was a little too wet when thrown into the kiln, mistakes like this usually ended up out back in the dunnage pile never to be seen again. The rim of this lovely crock is a little wavey /saggy. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece.
This crock does have the normal manufacturing blemishes and a tiny chip on the top inner edge and on right handle (shown in pictures).
We put a lot of research into this crock trying to track down the manufacturer, originally thought it was a Red Wing although with talking to other pottery experts, the origin leans towards late 1800s Iowa Pottery.

Circa 1880-1896
Measurements, 10¾” tall, 10½” diameter at top rim, weighs 15 pounds.
Condition, very nice for age, has the normal manufacturing blemishes.
Please see all pictures as they are part of the description.

This is a great dealer to work with. The crock I purchased was a beauty, it was packaged VERY WELL and was shipped quickly. This dealer took time to investigate the history of this crock and enclosed a great write up on it. I really appreciated this and will purchase from him in the future!
