Antique 1873 Enterprise No 9 Coffee Grinder, Coffee Mill
Wonderful 1873 Patented General / Mercantile Store Coffee Grinder made by Enterprise manufacturing Company of Philadelphia PA.
Patented July 12, 1873.
This is the largest countertop model that Enterprise manufactured, the #9. The first design of this model was made in 1873 this one was manufactured in the 1890s. You would have found this size coffee grinder in General Stores and Grocery stores across America in the latter part of the 1800s.
It stands 27” tall, and the fly wheels are 19½” diameter and weighs an impressive 107 pounds.

The grinder has the original red and blue paint with gold trim. The hopper lid has a brass eagle perched on top.
The grinding mechanism has been clean and grinds wonderfully, it is adjustable to grind the beans fine to coarse. The grinder is marked throughout with the company name and patent dates.

We have lightly cleaned the grinder and oiled all the moving parts. Overall condition is very good and grinds smoothly. The paint has chips and fading throughout from normal wear. Unsure if the wood catch drawer is original, although functions properly. The grinder mechanism has a patent date of July 12, 1898.

The Enterprise Manufacturing Company, founded in Philadelphia in 1864, was one of the leading makers of both large and small coffee grinders. Enterprise made heavy-duty grinders for grocers, retailers, and wholesalers.
