Antique Oxweld Railroad Lantern, used by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad.
Wonderful, Oxweld Carbide Lantern No. 2155 this lamp was used by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. The lantern was produced by the Dewar Manufacturing Company, for the Oxweld Company. The lantern is marked on the back of the handle C & O 49479. (49479 is most likely the employees ID number that was issued the lantern).
The lantern tanks are made of brass and steel, the burner housing is made of aluminum with a flip-up concave glass lens. It stands 10 ¼” tall, with a 4” glass lens, and the base is 6” diameter.
The lantern appears complete, the burner and chrome reflector are in wonderful condition, the base shows surface rust. Please see all pictures.
History,
The lantern is marked with Patent No. 1605505, this refers to the Spring Water Feed Mechanism given to John M. Brock on Nov. 2, 1926. Brock was one of the original founders of the Dewar Manufacturing Co. in 1914.

The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) was a Class I railroad formed in 1869 in Virginia. C&O's passenger services ended in 1971 with the formation of Amtrak.

Marked, OXWELD RAILROAD LAMP, NO. 2155, PATENT NO. 1605505.
