Antique Shark Vertebrae Walking Stick with Bovine Horn Handle
The things you find when looking for antiques still amazes me.
This beautiful walking stick was made around the 1880s, it is made with a bovine horn handle and the vertebrae from a Mako shark spine. Yes, a shark spine. There are 84 vertebrae, the largest being 1.0625” in diameter down to the smallest being .5” in diameter. The vertebrae have a steel rod running down the full length of the walking stick.
The overall condition of the walking stick is wonderful, there are a couple places where the vertebrae have separated slightly from age and drying of the bone. At the base or ground tip of the walking stick is a brown Bakelite tip which is very worn as shown in pictures. The walking stick does have a slight bow as shown in the last picture.
As with all our antiques we recommend they be treated as antiques and not used as an everyday item, there are precious few unique antiques left in the world.

Circa, 1880
Measures, 33 ½” long.
Condition, very good for age.
Please see all photos as they are part of the description.
