Antique French Handheld Bottle Corker
Wonderful find this French handheld open frame brass bottle corker.
A Bottle corker has but one purpose in life and that is to insert the cork into the bottle. This corker is made of brass with a wooden handle, it has a leather collar just below the wooden handle this is to absorb the impact as the cork is driven into the bottle.
To use this style corker, one would lift the handle pulling the driver up then place a cork into the open frame, then placing the corker on top of the bottle, with a leather or rubber mallet strike the top of the wood handle forcing the cork into the bottle.
This is a rare and unusual display item for your wine bar or a gift for that wine collector.
Circa, 1900-20
Measures, 9½” tall, 1¾” diameter at center of frame.
Marked, none.
Condition, very nice for age, has dings and dents for years of use.
