Antique 1850 Peg & Worm Corkscrew, Left-Handed Corkscrew, Wine Bottle Opener, Victorian Period

$225.00

Antique Victorian Period 1850 Peg & Worm Corkscrew, Left-Handed.
Highly collectible Peg and Worm style corkscrew. These were made in the mid-19th century into the early 20th century,
and you can still find some inexpensive examples made today.
This is a late 1800s corkscrew with a fluted worm (corkscrew). The peg slides down the center of the worm for storage,
pull the peg from the worm and slides into the hole at the opposite end of the corkscrew to form a T-handle.

Left-Handed, it is left-handed you must turn it counterclockwise to penetrate the cork. Peg and Worm style corkscrew were some of the only style corkscrews made left-handed.

The fluted worm (corkscrew) is designed with a groove cut along the backside of the worm which allows air into the bottle releasing the vacuum in the bottle, allowing the cork to pull easier.

Circa, mid to late 1800s
