Antique Fluting Iron, Victorian Sewing Notions, Fluting Machine

Antique Hand Crank Fluting Iron, Ruffler
Wonderful mid 1800s Hand Crank Fluting Iron. These were used to apply ruffles or flutes to clothing in the Victorian Era. Made of brass and cast-iron this would have been bolted down to a table in the laundry area.
The brass finial atop the iron is the tension screw that applies the tension to the rollers. These would have been heated by sliding hot steel rods into the hollow ends of the rollers (rods not included).
The overall condition is fabulous for its age, the fluter roller has two small chips as shown in pictures; we have spent several hours removing the years of dirt and tarnish from this beautiful piece.
We have had several Fluting Irons in our shop but by far this is the most beautiful one yet.
This will make a splendid addition to your collection or a fabulous gift.
