19th Century Crock Two-gallon, J Fisher & Company
Simple but beautiful this late 19th century utilitarian work of art.
Made by Jacob Fisher of Lyons, New York. Jacob Fisher ran his pottery company in Lyons from 1872-1902. (William Ketchum Jr., American Stoneware, p.74).
This is a two-gallon crock with applied lug handles and stamped on the face just below the rim with (J Fisher & Co. Lyons NY) and just above the blue cobalt tail, the numeral 2 is in its standard location to the right of the stamp.
Excellent Condition. With outstanding patina, the exterior of the crock is flawless, the inside has three small chips on the inner rim and two on the inner base. No cracks or restoration.
Circa, fourth quarter 19th century.
Measures, 9” tall, 10” diameter at top rim.
