Vulcan Blacksmith Anvil #5, 50-pound Anvil
Wonderful find, this late 1800s Vulcan Blacksmith Anvil manufactured by the Illinois Iron & Bolt Co., Carpentersville, IL.
The anvil is marked on the front below the horn with the number 5 in raised lettering, which means it was sold as a 50-pound anvil; this weighs 48.5 pounds, so very close.
The Vulcan anvils were made of a cast iron base coated in steel, with a 3/8” applied steel face.
Measurements,
Base, 7” x 6½” base height 2½”.
Waist, 4¾” x 3”.
Horn, 5½” x 2”.
Table / Step, 1½” x 2½”.
Face, 8 ½” x 3 1/8”.
History,
The Vulcan anvil was manufactured by the Illinois Iron & Bolt Co., Carpentersville, IL AKA American Skein & Foundry Company. They were made from around 1875 until about 1969.

Measures, overall size 14” long, 7½” tall, 6½” depth at base. weighs 48.5 pounds.
