Antique Railroad Lantern, LSWR Railway London England
Amazing find a Kerosene Lantern from the London and South Western Railway (LSWR, sometimes written L&SWR) of London England. The lantern is marked with a brass badge the side The Lamp Manufacturing Co. LTD. London, and a second on the top initials S.E.R. also stamped on the side initials LSWR.
The glass lenses: one is a flat pane with etched horizontal lines and the word TOP, second is a 4½” diameter magnifier lens which is made from a 1¼” thick piece of glass.
The Wick is very different with three wicks feeding on burner, condition of wick and burner is very good.
History,
The London and South Western Railway, was a railway company in south-eastern England from 1836 until 1922. The company was formed to construct a route from London to Dover, (information from Wikipedia).
Marked, LSWR & SER, London.
Circa, 1900.
Measures, 12½” tall with handle down, 5¼” diameter at base. Dome reflector glass 5” diameter.
Condition, normal wear with dents and dings, the lens shows wear with scratches. metal has been painted black at some point. No Fuel Smell.
