Antique English Abyssinian Champagne Tap
Wonderful example of this style champagne tap with ebony wood handle, the handle screws out of the valve housing and is attached to a sharp spike (trocar).
Operation: Leaving wire fastening intact. The trocar pin extends beyond the tube with which it forms a continuous spike. The device is inserted into the cork until the end of the shaft/stem is visibly though the cork. Now the wood handle is screwed out of the shaft and the spike/wire is withdrawn. Then the tap is closed with the side valve handle until the champagne is needed. To pour your Champagne tip the bottle the compressed air in the bottle will rise to the upper portion of the bottle, when the tap side handle is slowly turned to the open position the pressure from the compressed air will push the champagne out.
Made of nickel-plated brass, wood handle and a steel trocar spike.

Circa, early 1900
Measures, 5 ¾” long, 2 ¼” wide at handle.
Condition, untested, has plating lose on metal and wood.
