1855 Lund Patent Rack & Pinion Style Corkscrew
Wonderful find, an English Rack & Pinion corkscrew.
To use this in the 1800s you would have ventured down to the cellar, chosen a bottle from the rack, used the dusting brush to clean the dust and dirt off the bottle before opening your wine. Very simple to use place the corkscrew over the bottle turn the wood handle driving the screw into the cork then twist the metal handle clockwise to raise the cork from the bottle. This makes removing the cork a simple task.
Circa, 1850s
Marked, unmarked.
Measures, 7 ¼” tall, 4 ½” wide at handle.
Condition, wonderful condition works as it should, original finish of copper color has mostly worn off some spots remain.
