Antique Lightning Rod Glass Globes
Wonderful find, two Purplish Color Lightning Rod Globes. These two globes date to pre-1914. The globes show a purple hue, this is caused by the glass being manufactured with a small amount of manganese dioxide in it, to make the glass a clear color, which if left in the sunlight will cause the glass to turn a purplish color. Manganese Dioxide was used in glass starting around the 1870s until around 1915.
As normal with a used Lightening Globe the ends are a little chipped up, caused by the wind bouncing it around for years.
Circa: 1870-1914
Measures: 4 ½” outside diameter, 5” height.
Condition: nice, with end chips, no cracks.
