Antique Lightning Rod Cast Iron Arrow with Red Glass Tail
Wonderful find, this Lightening Rod Arrow. This directional arrow was used on a lightning rod in the 1800s.
Lightning rods had but one single purpose to deflect a lightning strike from the roof to the ground via a copper cable attached to the bottom of the rod. To dress up the lightning rods, around the 1870s manufacturers started adding colorful and decorative items such as arrows and glass globes.
Circa: 1880s
Measures: 18½” long, glass panel is 4½” x 2¼”.
Condition: heavy corrosion on the cast iron, glass is solid no cracks.
