Antique Hand Blown European 25-liter Demijohn, Dark-Green Glass Demijohn
Amazing 1800s French Dark-Green Glass Demijohn, Demijohn is pronounced deh·mee·jaan, it is a French word describing a large bulbous, glass vessel with small opening, used primarily for the fermentation and storage of liquids, such as wine. Demijohns are well-documented throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
This beautiful Demijohn is truly amazing, handpicked by a friend on her travels through Europe years ago. Standing 20½” tall, and 14” diameter in the center. The bottom of the bottle has a large Punt like wine bottles today; it has the marking from the glass blower breaking off the blowing pipe in the center of the Punt.
This bottle used a three-part process to make, the blown bottom half the upper contoured top sections was blown into a mold, and the top spout. All three pieces were joined together when the glass was still molten.
It has lovely air pockets, swirls and even a couple grains of sand embedded in the glass. Has the number 25 embedded in the glass, for 25-liter.

Measures: 20½” tall, and 14” diameter in the center, weighs 10.5 pounds.
Condition: clean with minor- light wear.
