Rare 1860s Solomon-Davis Hand Crank Sewing Machine: Antique London Collectible for Craft Enthusiasts

Antique 1860s Rare Solomon–Davis Sewing Machine, London
Amazing and rare find, this antique Solomon–Davis Sewing Machine, made in London. This is an 1860s C-shaped machine, these were produced between 1860s-1870s. They were hand crank machines or treadle machines using a single thread which creates a chain stitch pattern.
This medium sized machine and would have been used in the home or traveling. It is universal, it is hand crank and can also be removed from its base and used on a treadle, belt drive sewing machine system.
The machine is labeled on the base (S. Davis Co. London) the labeling is very worn and hard to read. It is made of cast iron and nickel-plated steel. The presser foot is unusual it lifts upward and pivots outward and locks in place. The sewing plate has serial number 65169.
This machine runs and operates easily and smoothly, I was amazed in the stitch control and smooth gear ratio, it was a joy to use.
This is a very rare sewing machine Solomon–Davis of London, very little is known of the company, and this is the only known machine on the market. This is not associated with the American made Davis sewing machines.

Circa: 1860s
Measures: 12” x 7 ½” at base, 9 ½” tall. Weighs 12 pounds.
Condition: paint in worn and touched up at some point, sewing plate has finish lose and wear.
