Antique Late 1800s French Peugeot Freres No.3 Coffee Grinder
Amazing find, this late 1800s Peugeot Freres No.3, mercantile countertop coffee grinder, made in France. Made of cast iron with a brass hopper cover and steel gears. This is a commercial-size coffee grinder meant to be used in a mercantile store; it will easily hold up to a half pound of beans. The top has an adjustment screw for fine-tuning the grind of the coffee bean.
Peugeot Freres Brevetes S.G.D.G. is French for (Peugeot Brothers Patented Without Government Guarantee)
S.G.D.G. was a French abbreviation for (Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement). (SGDG) is a French phrase that translates to (without government guarantee). 
Yes, Peugeot Freres is the same company that would make Peugeot Automobiles. The company started a steel foundry in 1810, and in the 1840s started manufacturing products from coffee grinders to bicycles, and in 1896, automobiles.
Circa: 1880-90.
Marked: Peugeot Freres Brevetes S.G.D.G, A 3.
Measures: 9 ½” square at base, 19” tall top of handle, 18” wide including crank handle. Weighs 24.4 pounds.
Condition: as shown, it is 135 years old and comes with scuffs. At some time, a replacement steel support was added to the base of the grinder.
