Antique Enterprise Cork Roller Press No.2
Wonderful 1860s apothecary piece. This is a hand-operated cork roller for compressing corks to fit into medicine bottles, made by the Enterprise Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia.
You lift the handle and place a cork into the roller by pushing the handle down. The cork would compress to the size of the bottle you needed to fit. This would have been found in pharmacies and Drug stores across America in the mid-1800s. Press is made of cast iron and attached to a wooden base.
Enterprise made two different sizes of this style press, #1 and #2; the #2 press was much larger.
Circa, 1860 - 1880s
Marked, No. 2
Measures, base = 11½” long, 3” wide, ½” high. Roller 11 ½” long, 5 ¾” tall, 2" wide.
