1940s German Casige Toy Sewing Machine, Art Deco model #1025
The name Casige was pronounced (Kaseege). Casige produced toys from 1902 until 1975. This size of machine was not a toy, as they were designed for children to learn how to sew, a perfect size for making doll clothes. It uses a single thread, which produces a chain stitch.
Casige had over 83 models in over 600 different design combinations.
Engraved on the silver sewing plate is an eagle and Casige Made in Germany British Zone. Color is gloss black on the base, with a wonderful Art Deco design. Comes with original box, hold-down clamp, small screwdriver, instruction manual in English, French, German, and Spanish, original thread (worn), and spool felt (cardboard).
History,
The Allied powers, who defeated Germany in World War II, divided the country west of the Oder-Neisse line into four occupation zones for administrative purposes during the period 1945 -1949. Since this machine is engraved British Zone, I would say it was produced during the Allied occupation. (This information was acquired from several different websites.
Circa: 1945-49
Machine Measures: 8” x 4 ½” x 6 ½” tall.
Condition: It operates nicely; the machine has paint chips as shown in the pictures, box is worn.
