Antique 1867 Enterprise Cork Roller Press No.1
Wonderful 1860s apothecary piece. This is a hand-operated cork roller for compressing corks to fit into medicine bottles, made by the Enterprise Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia.
You lift the handle and place a cork into the roller by pushing the handle down. The cork would be compressed to the size of the bottle you needed to fit. This would have been found in pharmacies and Drug stores across America in the mid-1800s. The Press is made of cast iron and attached to a wooden base.
Enterprise made two different sizes of this style presses, the #1 and #2. The #2 press was much larger.
The condition is amazing, straight from a private collection. It has the original paint and pin striping.

Circa, 1860s
