Antique 1870 French Bottle Corker / Cork Inserter
Wonderful and rare winery corker made by Lepee Suc of Paris, France. (Lepee Suc" refers to "Lépée Successor). This was used to insert the cork into a wine bottle. You would lift the driver, place a new cork into the corker, and strike the top of the driver with a leather mallet, forcing the cork into the bottle. This corker still has a leather cushion under the driver. These are usually weathered and missing.
The Lépée Successor Company was a well-known French wine equipment firm, located in Paris, France, from around 1860 to 1920.
Made of cast iron, brass, and wooden handles. To operate, spread the handles, lift the cork driver, place a new cork into the corker, squeeze the handles together, using a leather mallet, and strike the top of the driver to force the cork into the bottle.

Circa: 1860-1900.
Measures: 11” long x 4 ½” tall.
Marked: Lepee Suc, Paris.
Condition: wonderful for age. Cast iron shows age and wear from use; the wooden handle shows wear from years of use.
