Antique English Pocket Style Corkscrew with Built-in Whistle.
Wonderful find: this pocket-style Corkscrew, also known as a Roundlet-Style Corkscrew. Originally designed in the early 18th century, this wonderful piece dates from the late 1800s. This is made of a nickel-plated brass case with a steel Corkscrew. Unscrew the case at the middle slide and pull down the Corkscrew. Reattach the case to form a handle for the Corkscrew. The worm (corkscrew) is designed with a fluted worm, which is a groove cut along the backside of the worm. This allows air to enter the bottle once it has pierced the cork. This reduces the interior suction, allowing the cork to be pulled with ease. This pocket Corkscrew has a special feature at one end, which is a whistle, a very rare addition to a Corkscrew

Side Note: In the 1880s, a corkscrew in the pocket was as normal as a house key; one with a whistle was an added piece of security. Whistles were actively used during the Jack the Ripper era around 1888 to help locate someone in need of help and for the police to call for backup.

This exact corkscrew has been featured in a noteworthy collectors' book and listed in a reference book.

Measures: 3.375” long.
Condition: the finish is dull from age and use. It needs a good polishing.
