Antique Adelaide Corkscrew, Goat Horn Handle with Spike Corkscrew.
Wonderful find, this Adelaide Corkscrew, primarily manufactured in England in the late 19th century. The handles were mainly made of goat horn with a nickel-plated brass (sometimes silver) collar at the cut end. Also, at the cut end is a spike (wire breaker) used to sever the wire or string that often held the cork in place.
The English Adelaide corkscrew was registered in 1886 and manufactured by John Marshall, trading as Christopher Johnson, Sheffield.
Circa: 1800s
Measures: 5 ¼” long, 5 ½” wide at handle.
Condition: very nice, with only a little discoloration on the metal.
