Wonderful find, this amazing Stag Horn Corkscrew with Sterling Silver Caps.
Made of English Stag Horn handle with sterling-silver capped ends, the bell above the corkscrew is a Walker Company design from 1890. The worm (corkscrew) is known as a bladed style with the outer edge designed to cut through the cork with ease.
The Sterling silver caps are marked with (Sterling 1) and feature beautiful scrollwork. The end is engraved: Philadelphia, Natrona, Wyandotte, Buffalo 1903.
History,
The significance of the engraving is from the company (Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Company) (later known as Pennsalt Chemicals Corporation). The Pennsylvania Salt Company was a major contributor to the development of Pennsylvania between 1850 and 1924. This would have been a very prestigious gift at the time.
This corkscrew has been in a private collection for the past 40 years.
Circa: 1890-1900.
Measures: 5½” tall, 5½” wide at handle.
Condition: wonderful has a small ding on the end cap, shown in the pictures.
