Antique Equitable Powder Manufacturing Company, Dynamite Crate
Wonderful find, this 1930s wooden Dynamite Crate used by the Equitable Powder Manufacturing Company of East Alton, Illinois. The crate has an NRA stamp on one of the end panels, dating it to the 1930s.
The Equitable Powder Manufacturing Company was founded in 1892 by Franklin Walter Olin in East Alton, Illinois, to supply blasting powder to Midwestern coal mines and quarries. It served as the foundation for Olin Industries, which later became the Olin Corporation, and expanded into cartridge production in 1898. (Wiki)
NRA Stamp: refers to the National Recovery Administration, a New Deal agency established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933. This stamp generally features an Eagle logo and the phrase "We Do Our Part," symbolizing the company's adherence to fair labor practices and codes established to help end the Great Depression.
