Antique French Peugeot Box Coffee Grinder,
Wonderful find: this mid-1800s coffee bean grinder made by Peugeot Frères.
Yes, Peugeot Frères is the same company that would make Peugeot Automobiles. The company started a steel foundry in 1810, and in the 1840s began manufacturing products ranging from coffee grinders to bicycles, and in 1896, automobiles.
The grinder is made of Maple wood with a brass-domed hopper and a steel grinder. It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, ready to use or display.
Circa: 1860s
Marked: Peugeot Freres.
Measures: 5 ¾” square at base, 9” tall at handle.
Condition: clean; some wear on wood.
