Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad. Handlan Lantern, CM & St P RY
Wonderful Railroad Lantern used by the CM & St. P. RY (Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad Yard). The lantern was made by the Handlan Company of St. Louis, MO, and used in the rail yard. The lantern is known as a tall globe lantern, meaning the glass globe is tall; later lanterns used a shorter globe, introduced in the 1920s.
The lantern is marked in raised lettering on the lid and on the glass globe, is etched CM & St. P. RY (Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul, Rail Yard). The bottom of the lantern reads "Handlan St. Louis".
Circa: 1910-20s
Markings: CM & St. P. RY
Measures: 10” tall with handle down.
Condition: very good with normal wear and paint loss, glass has small rim chips, and a small dent on the top of the cap.
