1870s Star Hand-Crank Fluting Iron

1870s Star Hand-Crank Fluting Iron.
Wonderful Piece of history; this is a Fluting Machine or, also called a ruffler, used to put pleating or French fluting in freshly laundered clothing. This size Fluting Machine was designed for home use and made by the American Machine Company of Philadelphia.
Made of cast iron and brass fluting rollers with a wood handle, it also has a built-in clamp to hold the machine to the tabletop. There is a lever at the back of the machine that lets you raise and lower the upper roller to insert or remove the garment.
This machine has a patent date embossed under the rollers, Oct 19, 1875.
To use, steel heating rods would be inserted into the ends of the brass rollers. Heating rods are not included.

Measures: 15 ½” wide with handle, 7” tall, 8” deep.
Condition: operates smoothly; the paint has chips and shows wear throughout. No heating irons.
