Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale 12 New Old Stock Wilton Ashtrays with Bottle Opener
These are new old stock Wilton cast iron novelty ashtrays with built in bottle opener on the base of the street sign they were produced during the 40s and 50s by Wilton Products of Wrightsville, PA.
These feature a man wearing a tuxedo and top hat obviously inebriated clutching a street sign in a futile attempt to remain standing! These would have been purchased by the end user from novelty stores and tourist stops, the sign would have had the name of the town or location painted on it, these are still unpainted. The bottle opener is on the right side of the sign post it is the man's tuxedo coat tail formed into a bottle opener.
These would make perfect groomsman gifts with each groomsman’s names painted on them.
Measures; 4-3/4" high, and 4" square ashtray.
Marked on the bottom Wilton Prod Wrightsville, PA.
The condition is as found, these vary from good to excellent, most are in very good condition all are complete without any broken parts, some have light surface rust on the surface and undersides of the ashtray caused by the wonderful humidity in Florida, a couple have minor paint chips on the man, one has paint lose on the sign, overall they are in great condition for their age.
The Wilton family founded Susquehanna Castings in Wrightsville in 1892 and Wilton Products around 1935. The Susquehanna foundry made the cast iron products and Wilton Products hand painted them. These companies also produced bottle openers, trivets, candle holders, wall decorations, and garden plaques in addition to their famous novelty ashtrays. In 1954 the family branched out into brass, with the Wilton Brass Company located in Columbia, PA. Susquehanna Castings merged into Wilton Brass in the mid-1960s, ultimately becoming Wilton Armetale, which is still in business today. Wilton Products closed in 1989.
