Antique Barware, French Champagne Tap 13.5” Long

Sorry, this item has sold.

Thank you for viewing our Store,

We have for sale an Antique Victorian Period French Champagne Tap 13.5” Long.
Beautiful 19th Century French Serpent Champagne Tap. Champagne Taps were very popular in the Victorian period and they came in several different shapes and styles. This is an upright tap it allows you to leave the bottle upright and sitting on the table top (some other taps require you to tip the bottle upside down). The tap is screwed through the cork and pushed to the bottom of the bottle the serpent’s tail is a valve which you turn to allow the Champagne to travel up the tap and out the serpent’s mouth. The Tap is made of Nickel Plated Brass with a beautiful rosewood handle.

There are different ways to insert a Champagne tap the best is to drill a small hole through the cork with a gimlet (hand drill) then insert the tap into the cork. It does takes some practice, YouTube has a couple video’s on techniques. Enjoy drinking the Champagne while you practice.
