We have for sale a Vintage West German 1940s all wicker and wood sewing basket.
Charming 1940s vintage all wicker and wood sewing basket made in Western Germany. Older than the versions that contain plastic. The tufting buttons are silk-strand covered and the hinges are metal.
This basket shows excellent workmanship with braided natural wicker warps and twisted died warps. These are woven over thicker reed wefts. Finished with both painted and natural thicker reeds that are hand nailed. Each side has a circular handle that is firmly attached to the basket with metal wire. The lower corners are cut at a 45 degree angle which gives the basket an even more custom look.
Exquisite Imperial Red silk interior has outstanding tufting and shows minimal signs of use. There are no tears or stains and a couple of very light marks.
The lid hasp latch has a split reed tab that secures the reed loop snuggly.
Outstanding gift for a selective vintage buyer.
