Thank you for viewing our Store,
We have for sale a Vintage 1950 Dietz Vesta Railroad Kerosene Lantern, D. L. & W. R.R. Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad
Wonderful piece of American history red globed Railroad lamp made for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. The lantern was made by the R.E. Dietz Company of Syracuse New York. The lantern is all original with 4 ¼” tall red globe with raised lettering (Dietz). This lantern was put into service only 10-years before the railroad changed names.
The overall condition is as found, we cleaned with soap and water and it is as found, scuffs and dings with light surface rust, has a small dent in the hood, the bend in the handle is supposed to be there it is part of the design. Just needs a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint.
This lamp has a manufactured date S-7-50. Meaning made on July 7th, 1950 and the "S" means that the lantern was made in Syracuse at Plant #2.

History;
The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad (also known as the DL&W or Lackawanna Railroad) was a U.S. Class 1 railroad that connected Buffalo, New York, and Hoboken, New Jersey (and by ferry with New York City), a distance of about 400 miles (640 km). Incorporated in 1853, the DL&W was profitable during the first two decades of the twentieth century, but its margins were gradually hurt by declining traffic in coal and competition from trucks. In 1960, the DL&W merged with rival Erie Railroad to form the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. Info from Wikipedia.

Circa; 1950
Marked; D.L. & W.R.R.
Measures; 9 ¾” tall without handle, 6 ¼” diameter at base.
Condition; Nice condition as noted above. Please see all pictures.
