We have for sale an Antique RED STAR Fire Extinguisher
Wonderful Brass RED STAR Fire Extinguisher made by the General Fire Truck Corp. of Detroit Mich. USA.
The Fire Extinguisher is made of Copper with brass screw on cap and hose fittings. The two front labels are raised letter brass. It is all original with a riveted seam down the back.
The overall condition is good with a couple dings, at the base and along the riveted back the copper has patinaed green.
The Extinguisher is empty and sold as a display item only.
History,
Harry W. Huthsing founded the company in 1903 in St Louis as the National Belting & Hose Company. The name General Manufacturing Company was adopted in 1905. Production of fire extinguishers began in 1918. The company changed its name to the General Fire Truck Corporation in 1926.The company moved to Detroit in 1936 and was renamed the General Detroit Corporation in 1942.
