Thank you for viewing our Store,

We have for sale a charming vintage Centennial Singer 221-1 portable featherweight sewing machine and carrying case. Serial # AJ650770. The Centennial badged machine was made to commemorate the 100 years of Singer Manufacturing Company being in business. Sold for one year in 1951 with the badge inscription: “A Century of Sewing Service 1851-1951”. The machine badge was issued on June 1, 1950 so it was likely one of the first to be designated to be sold in 1951.

Serviced, cleaned, polished, electrically inspected, tuned and sampled – you can sew with it right out of the box. This is a very nice machine finished in that classic deep gorgeous shiny black featherweight paint, gold decals and chrome trim that shows minimal wear. The original foot pedal still makes the original 110-volt motor purr. The machine, bobbin case, bobbins and other attachments are in very good vintage condition with minor scratches consistent with age and minimal use. The machine has minimal clear coat wear, runs and operates very smoothly the surface shows minor scuffs and scratches very normal light use. Fold down extension surface has tiny paint chip where it was stored incorrectly and surface hit front plate screw (as noted in picture with blue arrow). Carrying case has scuffs and scratches, clasps function and lock (right clamps is lose on lid), instruction book and attachments box are in good vintage condition and show wear.

The I. M. Singer and Company began making sewing machines in 1851. In 1933, the company debuted the ‘featherweight’ machine at the Chicago World’s Fair. During WWII, the company’s factories were retooled to support war related machinery needs. In 1945, when they changed back to manufacturing sewing machines, the featherweight was their most popular and reliable brand. The Singer featherweight has long been a cherished machine for quilting and sewing due to its precise sewing capability and easy portability.
