We have for sale an Antique 1872 Crone, Woodworking Marking and Mortise Gauge.
Wonderful classic English Mortise Gauge from 1872 made by A. Crone. Made from beautiful Rosewood with solid brass hardware. It is marked on the stop block in two places (A Crone) and with the Patent date of Oct 22, 1872.
An English marking gauge features a single stem with an adjustable fence and is used to mark or scratch cut lines in a mortise layout. The gauge has two steel pins – 1 fixed, 1 sliding along with the stem. These pins are used to mark out double-parallel lines. The finest were traditionally made of ebony, rosewood or mahogany.
