Antique Faceted Peg and Worm Corkscrew, Wine Bottle Opener

Sorry, this item has sold.

Antique Faceted Peg & Worm Corkscrew, Wine Bottle Opener.
Highly collectible Peg and Worm style corkscrew. These were made in the mid-19th century into the early 20th century, and you can still find some inexpensive ones made today.
This is a late 1800s faceted with a fluted worm. The peg slides down the center of the helix for storage, pull the peg from the helix and slide into the hole at the opposite end of the helix to form a T-handle. The fluted worm is designed with a groove cut along the backside of the worm which allows air into the bottle releasing the vacuum in the bottle, allowing the cork to pull easier.

Circa, 1860-90s
