Antique Corkscrew Sanderson’s Vat 69 Cork handle Corkscrew.
Wonderful collector piece, the Sanderson's Vat 69 corkscrew the handle is made of wood and shaped like a bottle cork. This was an advertisement for Sanderson’s Whiskey in the early 1900s. The name on the handle is burnt into the wood and reads Sanderson’s Vat 69 on both sides.
The overall condition is very good with light plating lose on the steel. A true collector piece.
Why a corkscrew for whiskey? The bottle cap was not invented until the late 1800s by the Crown Cork Co. Baltimore and not highly used until into the early 1900s. Before the cap was introduced most all bottles had corks including Medicines, Perfumes and Alcohol.

History,
VAT 69 is the creation of William Sanderson and Son. As the story goes, William Sanderson was encouraged by his son to get into the blended whiskey business. He prepared 100 different blends and barreled them, and in 1882 invited some experts to sample them. The consensus was that cask No. 69 was the best, and thus VAT 69 was born. In 1884, the Sanderson’s bought Glengarioch Distillery and started making VAT 69 in earnest.
