Antique French Champagne Tap, Victorian Period, Champagne Serving Tool
Antique Victorian Period French Champagne Tap, 14” Long.
Beautiful 19th Century French Serpent Champagne Tap. Champagne Taps were popular in the Victorian period and came in several different shapes and styles. This is an upright tap, it allows you to leave the bottle upright and sitting on the tabletop, (some other taps require you to tip the bottle upside down). The tap is screwed through the cork and pushed to the bottom of the bottle, the serpent’s tail is a valve which turns to allow the Champagne to travel up the tap and out the serpent’s mouth. The Tap is made of Nickel-Plated Brass with a beautiful rosewood handle.

There are different ways to insert a Champagne tap the best is to drill a small hole through the cork with a gimlet (hand drill) then insert the tap into the cork. It does take some practice, YouTube has a couple video’s on techniques.
Enjoy drinking your Champagne while you practice.
